Setting Up Your Profile Picture, Bio, and Links

Setting Up Your Profile Picture, Bio, and Links
How to add a profile picture, write a bio that works, add external links, and set a banner or theme
Your profile is your home base on Whistlr — it's the first thing people see when they click through from a comment, a Mini, or a Pod introduction. A clear profile picture, a bio that tells people who you are, and the right links can turn a casual visitor into a follower. Here's how to set each piece up well.
Adding or Changing Your Profile Picture Go to your profile and tap your current photo (or the placeholder icon if you haven't set one yet), then choose Edit Profile Picture. You can upload a photo from your device's gallery, take a new one on the spot, or, for Business accounts, upload a logo. Once selected, you'll be able to crop and reposition the image before saving so it looks right in the circular frame used across Whistlr. Your profile picture appears next to everything you post or comment on, so pick an image that's clear and recognizable even at a small size.
Clarity matters more than complexity here. A simple, well-lit photo of your face (or a clean, high-contrast logo for a Business account) reads far better in a small thumbnail than a busy group shot or a low-resolution image. Since your picture shows up tiny in comment threads, Pod member lists, and notification previews, anything too detailed or cluttered tends to lose its impact at that size.
Writing a Bio That Works Tap Edit Profile, then add your bio in the text field below your name. Your bio has a limited character count, so the strongest ones get straight to the point: who you are, what you post about, and any one detail that makes you memorable. Many users also use their bio to point people toward what to expect from their content — for example, mentioning that you post cooking Minis, share local event recaps on Nearby, or run a Pod for a specific hobby. A bio doesn't need to be clever to work; it just needs to be clear.
  • Lead with who you are: A short phrase about your role, interest, or niche helps visitors immediately understand your content.
  • Mention what you post: Calling out your content type (Minis, Waves, Pod topics, live streams) sets clear expectations for new followers.
  • Add a touch of personality: A line that reflects your voice or sense of humor makes your profile feel like a person, not a placeholder.
  • Update it as you grow: Revisit your bio periodically, especially after a big change in what you post or after launching a Business account or Pod.
  • Keep it current: Outdated references (an old event, an expired offer) make a profile feel neglected — a quick refresh goes a long way.
A profile is a promise to anyone who visits it — it should tell people exactly what they'll get if they choose to follow you, and then deliver on that promise with every post.
Adding External Links From Edit Profile, scroll to the Links section to add one or more external URLs — your website, a shop page, another platform you're active on, or anything else relevant to your presence. Business and Creator Studio accounts typically have access to additional link slots, useful for separating things like a storefront link from a contact page. Once saved, your links appear as tappable buttons on your profile, so double-check each URL before saving to make sure it goes exactly where you intend.
Choosing a Profile Theme or Banner: Many profiles also support a banner image or accent color that sits behind or alongside your profile picture, giving your page a bit more visual identity. To set one, open Edit Profile and look for the Banner or Theme option near your picture settings. A banner is a good place to reflect your personal style, showcase a piece of your content, or reinforce a Business account's branding — just keep in mind it should complement your profile picture rather than compete with it for attention.
  • Profile picture: A clear, recognizable photo or logo that reads well even as a small thumbnail.
  • Bio: A short, specific description of who you are and what you post, refreshed as your content evolves.
  • Links: Verified, working URLs to your website, shop, or other platforms, placed in the order that matters most to visitors.
  • Banner or theme: An optional visual layer that adds personality without overwhelming the rest of your profile.
Taken together, these elements form the first impression every new visitor gets — and on a platform built around discovery through Nearby, Discover, and Flow, that first impression often decides whether someone taps follow or scrolls on. A few minutes spent getting your profile picture, bio, links, and banner right pays off every time someone new finds their way to your page.
